Be a Balanced Boomer
A Boomer is anyone born during the baby boom from the end of World War II to 1964. Today, Boomers span the ages 43 to 61. If that's you, this is your magazine.
Boomers are "the sandwich generation" because they're still caring for children or helping adult children and grandchildren, and at the same time helping their Senior parents. Boomers are sandwiched in-between.
I'm a Boomer, and in the sandwich, too. I have an age 9 daughter, an age 17 son, and my mom is almost 81 -- a very young 81, mind you. I love them all dearly; they add immeasurable joy to my life. There are times when I need to be there for all of them and it can be tough. I've had days where I take kids to two different schools, make it to the office before 8, take a child or parent to a doctor's appointment during the day, have a teacher conference at 5, soccer practice at 6, and grocery shopping at 8. I always tell myself, "Someday, you'll be bored and wish for something to do." Today is not that day.
The challenge of living in the sandwich generation can be overwhelming and at times seemingly impossible to handle. Boomers face all kinds of hurdles -- gradually over time, or suddenly after an injury or illness strikes a family member. Either way, that's where we can help.
