Would You Like to Dance?

Ballet: Exercise for the body and the soul.

Like most people, I dislike exercising even though I feel better when I do it. For me, "exercise" sounds like too much work and becomes yet another demand on my time. Sooner or later, monotony dampens my enthusiasm and I find things to do that seem more important. At least that was the case until I discovered ballet.

Why ballet?

I've always admired the graceful way professional dancers move. Their muscles are toned and flexible, and their posture is enviable. When I found a beginning adult ballet class while perusing a catalog from a local community college, I was intrigued. At first, I thought I must be crazy to try ballet at my age, but the class description encouraged adults with no ballet experience and that certainly described me. Still, I had some reservations. What would I look like in leotard and tights? Would I have enough coordination to not make a complete fool of myself?

An excellent article. I am a ballet teacher and I get lots of questions from older people as to whether they can take ballet. I cheer them on! This article gives an informative overview of what to expect.
